Jehoshaphat

2 CHRONICLES 17:1; 19:4-11; 20:5-9,17-29

Jehoshaphat became the king in Judah. He was a good king
who obeyed God and worshiped Him as King David had done. Jehoshaphat asked God to help him be a good king, and God did.

God was pleased with Jehoshaphat and blessed him with great riches. The people in Jehoshaphat’s kingdom respected and honored him.

King Jehoshaphat did many things for his country. The king destroyed all the idols people had put up across the land. The king also sent wise men into the cities to teach people about God and His laws.

The people in nearby countries were afraid of King Jehoshaphat’s power, so they left the king’s people alone. Some countries even sent gifts and silver and goats to Jehoshaphat to honor him.

Jehoshaphat built fortresses and storage cities and trained soldiers for his army. He named judges to guide the people. Jehoshaphat told the judges to be strong and do what is good.

One time, three countries planned to fight against Judah. Jehoshaphat told everyone to pray. Jehoshaphat stood before the people in the temple and prayed to God. “If trouble comes to us, God, we will stand before You and cry out Your name. You will hear us.”

God told Jehoshaphat to tell the people that God would be with them. God would take care of them; God would win the battle for Judah.

God helped Jehoshaphat and the people, and the people praised God with music and singing.
