Passage: Daniel 6:1-28

Daniel was one of King Darius’ best leaders. Daniel was honest, trustworthy, and hard working. The king planned to make Daniel the leader over the whole country. Other leaders became jealous when they learned what the king planned to do. The leaders watched Daniel to see if he did anything wrong, but Daniel was an honest man. The jealous leaders saw that Daniel did nothing wrong. The jealous leaders thought of another way to get Daniel in trouble. They went to King Darius. The leaders asked the king to tell all the people that they could not pray to God for thirty days. King Darius agreed to the plan. The people would not be allowed to pray to God. The king did not know the jealous leaders were trying to get Daniel in trouble. Daniel heard what the king said about praying. Daniel went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened to Jerusalem. Three times a day—morning, noon, and night—Daniel got down on his knees and prayed. Daniel gave thanks to God and asked for God’s help. Daniel knew that he needed to always do what was right. Because Daniel disobeyed the king’s order, he was taken to the den where the lions stayed. But even then, Daniel trusted God. And nothing happened to Daniel. God kept Daniel safe all night long. The king was amazed. He declared, “The God of Daniel is the living God. He endures forever. He rescues and delivers. Daniel’s God saved Daniel from the lions.”
