Daniel Obeyed God 2026
January 11, 2026
Passage: Daniel 1:1-20
Daniel lived in the city of Jerusalem. He loved God and learned the laws and
commands God gave His people when they left Egypt. Daniel obeyed God’s
commands.
When Daniel was a teenager, the king in the country of Babylon marched to
Jerusalem. The king’s soldiers took Daniel and many other people back to Babylon to
be servants. The king had a plan for young men like Daniel who were from important
families and were strong and wise.
Daniel and three of his friends were chosen to be trained to serve the king. Every
day the king’s officials taught the young men a new language and stories from
Babylon’s history. Daniel and his friends were given new names, too.
The king’s officials took rich food to Daniel and his friends every day. But Daniel
remembered what he had learned from God’s law, and Daniel knew he must
continue to obey God’s laws about food and eating.
Daniel asked the king’s official to serve him and his friends vegetables and water
instead of the king’s rich food. Daniel said, “After ten days, examine us and decide
if we are healthy.”
The official agreed with Daniel’s plan. At the end of the test, the official could
see that Daniel and his friends were indeed healthy and strong.
God was pleased with Daniel’s choice to obey His laws, even in a foreign land.
And God made Daniel and his friends strong and wise.
