Passage: Daniel 3:1-30

The king in Babylon made a huge statue and covered it in gold. The king told all the
judges and leaders in the country to attend a special service to see the statue.
All the people went to see the statue as the king commanded. One of the
king’s men said in a loud voice, “Whenever you hear the instruments play, you are
commanded to fall to the ground and worship the statue. Whoever disobeys will be
punished.”
From that day on, the people did what was commanded. But Daniel’s friends did
not obey the king’s command. This caused trouble for the friends. When the king
heard about the three men, he became very angry. The king told the men that if they
did not worship the statue or the king’s gods, the men would be taken to a furnace
with burning hot fire.
Daniel’s friends trusted God, though, and worshiped only Him. The friends told
the king, “If our God is real, He can rescue us from the fire and from you. We will not
ever worship your statue or gods.”
So, the king’s officials took the men to the furnace.
But God did rescue Daniel’s friends. The men were not hurt at all in the fire!
The king could not believe his eyes. He exclaimed, “Praise to the God of these
men. His angel rescued them because they trusted in their God.”
The friends trusted God to help them, and the king learned there is no other god
who could do what the true God can do.
