Passage: 1 Samuel 1:1-2:11
A man named Elkanah had a wife named Hannah. Elkanah loved Hannah very much. But Hannah was sad. She did not have any children. She wanted to have a family with her husband Elkanah. Hannah was very sad, and she cried and would not eat. One day when Hannah was at the tabernacle, she found a place to pray. All alone, Hannah talked to God and cried. Hannah prayed, “God, if You will give me a son, I will be sure he knows about You. He will serve You all his life.” Eli, the priest, was sitting near the doorpost of the tabernacle. He saw Hannah talking, but he could not hear what she said. Eli did not know that Hannah was praying to God. Hannah told Eli she was sad. Her heart was broken because she had no children. Hannah told Eli she had been praying to God to give her a child. Eli told Hannah to go home. God would answer her prayer. This made Hannah feel better. She went home with her family. Before long, God answered Hannah’s prayer. She and Elkanah had a baby boy, and Hannah named the boy Samuel. Hannah thanked God for this wonderful gift. God had heard Hannah’s prayers and answered. Hannah said, “I am so happy. There is no one like You, God. You know all things. You give life
