REDEFINES FAMILY

To know that my spiritual family here at the church was able to help me get through arguably my greatest personal challenge [and] public personal challenge means a lot. It allows you to redefine family and I'm at a point now where I'm so far delivered and removed that I strive to make sure that I can be that type of vessel or asset for anybody else.

Paul and Silas traveled to many towns to teach about Jesus. That made some people angry. The people did not want Paul and Silas to talk about Jesus anymore. One day the angry people pushed and shoved Paul and Silas to the marketplace. The angry men found the judges and said: “Paul and Silas are upsetting everyone. They are doing things to get people in trouble.” So, the judges sent Paul and Silas to jail and put them in chains. Paul and Silas knew God loved them. They knew God would help them. The men prayed and sang songs to God. The other people in the jail listened as Paul and Silas prayed and sang to God. The people learned about God from hearing Paul and Silas. Suddenly the ground shook and the jail doors opened. The chains fell off the men. The noise woke the guard. He was afraid because he thought all the prisoners would leave. If they did, the guard would be in big trouble. The guard was surprised and happy when he saw Paul and Silas standing free. The guard could see that Paul and Silas were brave because of Jesus. The guard wanted Paul and Silas to tell him about Jesus. The guard believed what the men said, and the guard’s family did, too. The guard was very happy to know about Jesus. The man took Paul and Silas to his house to eat with his family.

Need to Know: God Made Everything!

Paul traveled from town to town telling people about Jesus. Sometimes other men traveled with Paul. In each town, the men told people about Jesus and the wonderful things He had done. Once, Paul sailed to the city of Philippi. Paul stayed in the city for several days, then he looked for a place to pray. Paul heard that some people in Philippi met by the river to pray. Paul and his friends went to the river. There they saw some women. The women were at the river to pray. Paul talked to the women. He told them God loved them and that God sent Jesus to care for them. One of the women was named Lydia. She was a businesswoman who made purple cloth for people to buy. Paul began to talk to the women. Lydia and her friends listened. Lydia was happy to hear about Jesus. She believed what Paul told her. Lydia’s family listened to Paul, and they believed, too. Lydia said to Paul and his friends, “Come stay at my house.” Paul and his friends stayed at Lydia’s house while they were in Philippi. Lydia was kind to the men, and they taught her family more about the many things Jesus had said and done.
