REDEFINES FAMILY

To know that my spiritual family here at the church was able to help me get through arguably my greatest personal challenge [and] public personal challenge means a lot. It allows you to redefine family and I'm at a point now where I'm so far delivered and removed that I strive to make sure that I can be that type of vessel or asset for anybody else.

Paul and Barnabas continued their work among the people in Antioch, helping them know more about Jesus and how people should work together. After a while, Paul said to Barnabas, “Let’s go back and visit our church friends in every town where we have preached. Let’s see how the people are doing.” Barnabas was eager to go with Paul to visit the people. Barnabas asked Paul to include John Mark on the trip. Paul thought about Barnabas’ idea, but Paul did not want John Mark to go with them. When the men had been on their first journey to talk to people, John Mark decided to leave. Paul had not been happy about this. Barnabas did not want to go with Paul unless John Mark went with them. Barnabas and John Mark decided to leave Paul and go on their own journey to Cyprus. Now Paul had to choose someone else to go with him on his journey. Paul chose Silas, a young man from Jerusalem who served in the church. Paul sailed away from Antioch on his second journey to tell people about Jesus. Silas sailed with Paul. Everywhere they went, the men helped people know about Jesus.

Need to Know: I can tell others about Jesus!

People in the church at Antioch heard a message from God: send Paul and Barnabas to tell people about Jesus. So, the church people prayed for Paul and Barnabas, then sent them on the important journey. Paul and Barnabas sailed on a boat to Cyprus. The men went to the synagogues and taught people about God. Next, Paul and Barnabas sailed to another city. When they reached the city, the men taught in the synagogues and explained that God had always taken care of the people. God had given them judges and kings to help the people live as God wanted them to live. Then God sent His Son, Jesus, to save the people. “We tell you this good news because it proves God kept all His promises to His people,” Paul preached. Some of the people wanted to hear more, but others did not. Paul and Barnabas did not stop telling the good news. They went to another city and helped many people know the truth about Jesus. Finally, Paul and Barnabas went to Lystra to teach people. It was time to go back home. As Paul and Barnabas sailed back to Antioch, they stopped along the way to visit the people and encourage them to keep on believing the truth about Jesus and know God would help them.
