The Parable of the Loving Father
August 30, 2026
Passage: Luke 15:1-3
Jesus wanted people to understand how much God loved them. One day, Jesus told
a story about a family to help people know that God loves them like a father loves his son. This is Jesus' story:
A father had two sons. One day, the younger son asked his father to give him the money saved for him. So, the father did.
The younger son then traveled to a different country away from his family. This son spent all his money until none was left.
The son then had to work, so he got a job on a pig farm. It was hard work, and the son was always hungry. No one gave him any food to eat.
Then the son decided he should go back home. “I will work for my father," the son thought.
So, the son walked home. As he got near his family's house, the son saw someone running to him. It was his father! His father hugged the son and kissed him.
The son asked his father to forgive him, and his father did.
The father wasn't angry after all. Day after day the father had looked for his son
to come home. The father loved his son no matter what the son did.
The father was so happy that he had a party to celebrate! The father gave the son special gifts to show his love for him.
