Passage: 1 Samuel 17:12-49
Three of David’s brothers were soldiers. David’s father, Jesse, wanted to know how
the brothers were doing, so Jesse told David to go check on his brothers. “Take bread
and grain for your brothers and some cheese for the leader of the soldiers,” Jesse
instructed David.
David got up early in the morning to find his brothers. When David reached the
army camp, he saw many soldiers lined up. Then he saw a very, very tall man, a giant
named Goliath. The giant shouted angry words at the soldiers and frightened them.
David talked to some men standing nearby. “Who is this man who shouts at
God’s army?”
The soldiers told David about the giant and how King Saul wanted someone to
get rid of the giant.
David said he would go meet the giant Goliath.
When the giant Goliath saw young David, he made fun of David. Then the giant
said bad things about God.
David knew God would help him. He told the giant that on this day, everyone
would know about God and His power and strength.
David picked up five smooth stones and put them in his pouch. Then David ran
quickly toward the giant. David placed a stone in his slingshot and threw the stone
at the giant. The giant fell to the ground.
That day David showed the giant and all the people that God is the one and only
true God.
