2 CHRONICLES 34:1-21,29-32
Josiah became king when he was a very young boy. Josiah
loved God and obeyed Him. Josiah learned what he should do as
king to obey and honor God.
When King Josiah was a young man, he began to tear down
poles and altars and statues the people had made to worship false
gods. Josiah wanted the people in the land to worship the true
God.
King Josiah decided to clean and repair the temple. Josiah gave
his helper Hilkiah money to buy whatever was needed to repair the
temple.
The builders and carpenters worked hard. The people used
their skills in whatever way they could.
One day Hilkiah made a discovery. He found the book of law that
Moses had written many years before. Hilkiah gave the book to
one of King Josiah’s helpers.
The helper told King Josiah about the discovery, then the helper
read the book to Josiah.
King Josiah became sad when he heard the words from the
book. He knew the people had forgotten what Moses wrote. The
people did not obey God’s law.
King Josiah told all the people in his land to go to the temple.
Then the king read all the words of the book aloud to the people.
Josiah made a promise to love and obey all God’s commands
with all his heart. And all the people agreed to love and obey God,
too.
